Off-Duty Cop Shoots Armed Teen Robber Who Stole Police Chief’s Gun During Street Robbery

This is the moment an off-duty police officer opens fire on a teen robber who allegedly stole a gun from a police chief who was robbed in the street alongside his police officer wife.

The incident happened in Vila Yolanda, in the municipality of Osasco, in the metropolitan region of Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Saturday, 22nd August.

Footage shows the off-duty military police officer confronting the suspect and firing several shots as the robber attempts to flee.

The suspect is seen running away after the initial shots before then reportedly collapsing a short distance from the scene.

According to Sao Paulo's Public Security Secretariat, a police chief and his wife, who was also an off-duty civil police officer, were travelling along Antonio Jose Nurchis Street when they were approached by the armed robber riding a motorcycle.

The suspect allegedly demanded one of the couple's wedding rings during the robbery.

But he then realised that one of the victims was a police officer and allegedly took the police chief's gun before attempting to escape.

A preliminary police report said the robber also took the officer's mobile phone, wedding ring and motorcycle during the attack.

The off-duty military police officer witnessed what was happening and intervened.

According to reports, he approached the suspect and ordered him to surrender as the robber tried to retrieve his motorcycle that had fallen in the street.

The officer then saw that the suspect was holding a gun and opened fire.

The robber reportedly fired the weapon he was carrying while attempting to escape on foot.

The suspect was hit and managed to run towards a nearby street before being found wounded just metres from where the robbery had taken place.

Police said he was taken to Santo Antonio Emergency Hospital but died after arriving at the medical facility.

The police couple were not injured during the robbery or the subsequent exchange of gunfire.

A woman travelling in a ride-hailing car was reportedly hit in the shoulder by a stray bullet during the confrontation.

She received immediate medical treatment, although authorities did not disclose her current condition.

Local reports identified the 19-year-old suspect as Peterson de Oliveira, while police were investigating whether he had acted with other accomplices.

The case was taken to the 5th Police District in Osasco.

Sao Paulo's Public Security Secretariat said the report was still being prepared and that authorities would investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
