Two Rescued From San Francisco Bay After Currents Carried Them From Their Sinking Boat

Two men have been rescued from the water after strong currents carried them away from their sailing boat in the San Francisco Bay.

The incident took place near 1050 The Embarcadero in San Francisco, in the US state of California, on Sunday, 30th August.

Fire department rescue crews were sent to the scene at about 6.40pm after a report that a small sailing boat had capsized.

They found the two men in the water, both of them wearing life jackets, and brought them back to shore.

Police said in a statement on 31st August: "On Sunday, SFPD [San Francisco Police Department] officers assisted SFFD [San Francisco Fire Department] in rescuing two boaters after the strong bay currents had carried them away from their sinking sailboat."

Neither man wanted any further medical attention, according to fire officials.

Officers also towed the boat back in once the two had been recovered.

The stretch of water involved lies alongside the Embarcadero, the waterfront road running along the eastern edge of the city.

The Ferry Building sits on the same stretch and is one of the busiest parts of the San Francisco waterfront on a Sunday evening.
