Baboon Breaks Into Parked Car To Steal Woman’s KFC As Fellow Baboons Gather To Enjoy Stolen Feast

This is the moment a hungry baboon stages a brazen KFC heist, raiding a woman’s car for her fried chicken before turning on her when she tries to take it back.

The incident happened in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa, and the footage was posted on TikTok on 24th August with the caption: “What a hectic day.”

In the video, the baboon pulls open the passenger door while the woman is sitting inside the parked vehicle.

It then climbs into the car, grabs the bag containing her KFC and makes off with the food.

When the woman gets out and tries to retrieve her meal, the baboon turns towards her, prompting her to quickly retreat back into the vehicle and lock herself inside.

Several other baboons then converge on the scene, tearing open the stolen, grease-stained KFC paper bag and aggressively sharing pieces of fried chicken on the pavement.

As some of the troop tuck into the meal, another baboon climbs onto the car’s bonnet before moving around the vehicle and pulling at the front and rear door handles in an apparent attempt to get inside

The extraordinary encounter prompted a stream of reactions from viewers, with one person warning: “Never ever fight them for food; they could do serious harm.”

Another summed up the confrontation simply, writing: “It was war.”

The baboon’s ability to open the car door also left viewers stunned, with one asking: “They can open doors?”

Another commenter admitted: “It’s only funny because it’s not me.”

Cape Town is known for encounters between residents and chacma baboons, which are capable of raiding vehicles and other places where they can find food.

Baboons in the Cape Peninsula have become accustomed to finding food around people, and residents and visitors are warned not to leave food visible inside vehicles or confront the animals.

The City of Cape Town and CapeNature operate baboon ranger teams in areas including Kommetjie, Simon’s Town and Scarborough to monitor troops and help reduce conflict between people and wildlife.

For this KFC customer, however, the encounter ended with the baboon getting exactly what it wanted, and her lunch disappearing with it.
