Police Rescue Dishevelled Parrots Crammed Inside A Cardboard Box

This is the moment police rescue a group of dishevelled parrots crammed inside a cardboard box and detain a suspect.

The footage was obtained from the Bolivar Police Department, part of the National Police of Colombia, on 10th June, after an operation in the Colombian department of Bolivar, in northern Colombia.

The video shows officers rescuing the birds from the box and taking the unnamaed suspect into custody.

The Bolivar Police Department said: "Wings that deserve sky, not chains."

The birds had reportedly been transported illegally before they were seized during a control operation.

The suspect is reportedly facing investigation for wildlife-trafficking offences.

The rescued birds were reportedly taken for specialist care before being returned to the wild.

The number of birds and the precise species involved were not specified by the force.

Colombia holds the greatest diversity of bird species of any country in the world, and the illegal trade in wild birds remains a persistent problem there.
