Terrifying Moment Woman Balances On Ladder While Cleaning High-Rise Apartment Windows

This is the terrifying moment a woman risks falling from a high-rise apartment as she cleans windows while perched precariously on a ladder.

The incident was recorded in Barra da Tijuca, in Rio de Janeiro’s West Zone, Brazil, and was reported by local media on 27th August.

The woman can be seen using a ladder to reach the farthest part of a window before leaning against the frame as she cleans the glass.

The woman does not appear to use any safety equipment while carrying out the dangerous cleaning work high above the ground.

Brazil’s Labour Ministry states that activities carried out more than two metres above a lower level where there is a risk of falling are considered work at height and require appropriate protective measures.

Fire brigade colonel Fábio Contreiras warned that even a sudden gust of wind or a brief loss of balance could have devastating consequences.

He said: "Up there, a sudden gust of wind can be unexpected, a small loss of balance or even a momentary dizzy spell is enough to cause a major tragedy."

He added that routine household window cleaning should be carried out from inside the apartment, with both feet firmly on the floor.

For the outside of windows, Fabio recommended using equipment such as magnetic window cleaners and extendable poles.

Where windows require more complicated cleaning, he advised residents to hire a specialised company.
