This is the moment a startled visitor discovers a standing urinal inside a women’s restroom at a scenic area.

The incident happened at the Ulan Butong scenic area in the city of Chifeng, Inner Mongolia, China, local media reported on 27th August.

The video shows the visitor opening the door marked "women’s restroom" before finding the male-style urinal still installed inside.

She said she was "scared" after seeing the unexpected fixture in the women’s toilet.

The footage prompted a response from staff at the scenic area, who explained that the building had originally been a shared restroom.

It was later divided into separate men’s and women’s facilities during renovation work.

However, the standing urinal from the former men’s restroom was not removed and was left behind after the conversion.

Staff confirmed that the building shown in the footage is now designated as the women’s restroom, while the neighbouring building is marked as the men’s restroom.

They said the two facilities had already been separated and clearly labelled.

The scenic area acknowledged the leftover fixture and said it “may be removed” in the future.

The response prompted sarcastic reactions from Chinese netizens, with one asking: “They said it ‘may be removed’ in the future? What are they waiting for, a special ceremonial date to dig it up?”

A second commenter described the situation as “a masterpiece of modern lazy engineering”, adding: “‘We changed the sign, our job here is done.’”

Another said they understood the visitor’s reaction, writing: “I would honestly be scared too. Finding a urinal inside makes you instantly panic and think, ‘Oh no, did I accidentally walk into the men’s room?’”
