A heartbroken bride has revealed how her mother died just hours after watching her get married in Brazil.
Architect Natália Bonjardim, 32, married in São Paulo, south-eastern Brazil, on 24 May after spending three years planning the ceremony.
Her mother, nursing assistant Dilvanize “Nize” Bonjardim, 60, had travelled from Mogi Guaçu, a city in São Paulo state, to the state capital to be with her daughter on the wedding day.
Natália first revealed the tragedy in a social media tribute that went viral before later speaking directly to local media about the loss.
She told UOL that Nize had helped her with every detail of the wedding preparations and had been excited for the ceremony.
Natália said: “She was very anxious and excited, she only talked about it.”
Before the ceremony, mother and daughter spent a private moment together, held hands and prayed.
Natália later said the wedding began at 3.30pm and her mother died at 7.30pm.
Nize reportedly fell ill during the celebration and was taken to hospital, but doctors were unable to save her.
The cause of death has not been revealed.
Before the tragedy, Natália had shared images from the ceremony and thanked her mother for being present at one of the most important moments of her life.
She later posted an open letter online paying tribute to Nize, telling followers how her happiest day had become the worst moment of her life.
Natália wrote: “Yes, mum, the big day arrived. The long-dreamed-of and long-awaited wedding of your Tica.
“We had a beautiful day, we got ready together, we shared the emotions together, you were radiant.”
Remembering the sudden loss, Natália said she still could not understand how her mother had died during the celebration.
She wrote: “I really cannot accept that the happiest day of our lives became my worst nightmare.”
Natália said she had married the love of her life on the same day she lost the person she loved most.
She wrote: “On 24 May, I married the love of my life and lost my favourite person in the world, my best friend, my confidante.”
Natália thanked her mother for everything she had done for her and said she did not know how to live without her.
She wrote: “Mum, I love you, you were a warrior. And thank you for everything you did for me.
“As I always told you in life, I really do not know how to exist in a world without you. Until eternity.”
