Man Strolls Across Lisbon Airport Runway As Plane Roars Past Metres Behind Him

This is the moment a 36-year-old trespasser strolled across Lisbon Airport before an aircraft roared past just metres behind him and a worker then reached him and led him away to safety.

The incident happened at Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon, the Portuguese capital, at about 8.55am on Sunday, 30 August.

Footage filmed from an aircraft shows one plane taxiing along the runway as the Portuguese national walks across the grass towards the airfield.

Seconds later, another aircraft speeds past behind him while he continues walking through the restricted area.

An airport worker wearing a yellow high-visibility vest then approaches the trespasser, takes him by the arm and leads him away.

Portuguese Public Security Police said the 36-year-old had jumped the perimeter fence near the airport's cargo terminal before entering the restricted area.

He was intercepted by airport staff before being handed over to police.

Emergency medical workers later attended to him and he was taken to hospital for a medical assessment.

Police said there was no interruption to air traffic while he was on the airfield.

The incident will be reported to prosecutors.
