This is the moment a father-of-three is punched while trying to defend two women from harassment with the attacker’s child watching on before he falls and fatally hits his head on the ground.
The shocking incident happened in Nova Lima, Minas Gerais, Brazil, in the early hours of 6th June.
Ailton da Silva, 57, intervened after noticing two women being followed and harassed by a man on a street.
Police said the women had left a local festival when they were approached and persistently followed by Antonio Edson de Oliveira Alves, 47.
According to police, he had been accompanied by his approximately 10-year-old son during the incident, who witnessed the entire incident.
The situation escalated when Ailton stepped in and asked the suspect to leave the women alone.
Footage shows Antonio Edson de Oliveira Alves punching Ailton in the face during the confrontation as he falls to the ground.
Ailton struck his head and lost consciousness, later suffering convulsions as bystanders rushed to help.
Emergency services were called and attempted to revive him at the scene before he was taken to hospital in Nova Lima.
He was admitted to Hospital Nossa Senhora de Lourdes but did not survive his injuries.
Officers initially believed the suspect had fled, but later located him hiding inside a room at his home before breaking down the door and taking him into custody.
He surrendered without resistance, police said.
Ailton’s family described him as a calm man who avoided conflict but was always willing to help others.
His sister Ivanete Silvana da Silva said: “It was cowardice. My brother never argued with anyone in the neighbourhood. He avoided trouble, and then this happened while he was trying to defend those girls.”
Ailton leaves behind three children and six grandchildren.
His daughter Joice Vianna added: “My father did nothing wrong. He was an excellent person and anyone could always count on him.”
Police confirmed the case remains under investigation, with CCTV footage and witness statements being reviewed to establish the full circumstances of the attack.
