Four members of the same family have been killed in a head-on crash including a young married couple who were weeks away from their first wedding anniversary while their two-year-old son was the only survivor.

The devastating crash took place on the TO-110 road, between Ponte Alta do Bom Jesus and Taguatinga, in the state of Tocantins, Brazil, on Sunday, 7th June.

The family were travelling in a car that collided with another vehicle coming in the opposite direction.

The victims have been identified as Dinoel Cordeiro da Silva, 51, Lucilene Souza Barros Cordeiro, 47, Maycon Douglas de Souza, 24, and Ana Karoline Queiroz Alves, 20.

Lucilene was a municipal worker in Taguatinga and was married to Dinoel, with the couple’s son Maycon also among those killed.

Maycon and Ana Karoline were married and were approaching their first wedding anniversary at the end of June.

The couple also had a two-year-old son who was inside the vehicle at the time of the collision.

The child survived the crash and was taken to the Hospital Geral de Palmas for treatment.

The family had been returning home after a trip to visit relatives in Dianopolis.

One of the cars came to rest partially on the roadway, blocking traffic, while the other was thrown off the road.

Firefighters worked to free victims who were trapped inside the wreckage.

Motorists passing the scene helped assist survivors from the second vehicle before they were taken for medical care.

The bodies of the four victims were taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Natividade before being released to their families.

Local authorities said the crash caused significant disruption on the highway as recovery work continued.

The Prefeitura de Taguatinga issued a statement expressing condolences for the deaths of Lucilene and her family members.

They said: "In this moment of grief, we stand in solidarity with the family and friends, praying to God that He grants strength, comfort, and peace to all in the face of this irreparable loss."

Police have launched an investigation through the 103rd Police Station in Taguatinga to establish the cause of the collision.
